Following the 1990 season, the Riverside Red Wave relocated to the City of Adelanto and became the High Desert Mavericks. The Mavericks started out with great success winning the California League Championship in their first year of existence. The City of Adelanto voided the Mavericks's lease of Maverick Stadium in January of 2016, but the team was allowed to finish the season. The High Desert Mavericks ceased operations following the 2016 season after 26 years of baseball. In 2017 the California League would operate with 8 teams as both High Desert and Bakersfield folded and two teams were added to the Carolina League.
